The person responsible was Dr John Ziegler – a chemist and weightlifting coach working for the Ciba drug company. After hearing about Russian athletes using testosterone he set out to create a drug that mimicked testosterone’s muscle-building effects. The drug he helped create was called Dianabol – the first of the world’s anabolic steroids.
